Hello friends, guests and prospective customers.
Today our site is online for everyone and yes, I am very happy about this long-awaited step.
We have considered ways to provide a full website right from the start. I have written texts to inform companies with hotels, bars etc. and to convince them to provide us with information material. From these we would have created and published the entries for the companies free of charge. So we would have provided you with a full website with all the companies that might have followed my letter. Here you can read what I wanted to send by mail (as I said it is a pre-version that was never finished).
With all these considerations, we have been thinking more and more about how all this can be achieved. With how many links will it be possible to start with? When will the companies respond? When will the entries be ready? When could we translate them and when can they be published? All these questions were suddenly more important than anything else. The website was still not online and my living room was full of Post-it’s, I felt like in a marketing office. What do I have to do? To achieve what? With how much effort? At what cost? What kind of marketing do I need to get guests and interested parties at all and why have I spent money so far and don’t even know what will become of it.
Exploring the island of Gran Canaria and the joy in it has been lost, I was in the marketing whirlpool. I had to slow down, the question whether this was the way I wanted to go had to be answered and how the hell did I get to this point at all.
It must be possible to bear the costs of the website. OK, I understand. What you would spend on a hobby, I spend. Everything’s fine up to here. However, in order to recoup the too high costs of alternatives and to be on the legally secured site, a lawyer is required in order not to go offline again immediately.
Now you know why the start page of Gran Canaria Rocks looks more like an entry page than a blog. Up to this point I thought I would go online soon, that was 5 months ago.
The problem from my point of view was the too long implementation and development time. I was sucked into the whirlpool of a company. Yes I know, according to German law, all this is necessary that you can see this website here today. But we must not forget the fun and that’s the way we definitely found ourselves.
What are we doing differently now?
I have made a few entries where I myself was and can report about it. I have described a few cities and places to give a small overview of the island, which I will gladly expand when I return to the island.
The website will remain in three languages. How quickly they are all available depends on the translator’s financial resources and then his speed.
The texts I write (In the blog) are no longer 100% checked, if someone finds a spelling mistake, they are welcome to keep it :-). If I’d gone the other way, I wouldn’t be done in three years. I’ll write what comes exactly into my mind, but don’t worry, I’m a polite person. So now I have given you some information why the site is not quite perfect and why it is an entry page.
I am looking forward to the website going online today and everything else I’ll let come to me.
All the best
